West End has its origins which date back to the time when Shakespeare first had his shows performed for the royalty and for the public. It is when drama, romance, tragedy and comedy, all came to life on stage in London. First Playhouse
The first playhouse was built in Shoreditch in the year 1576 and it was referred to as The Theater. It is where the idea of West End has started. Before the theatre was created, plays used to be performed in Inn Yards, People’s homes and courtyards. There wasn’t a concept of a theatre before this period. Then, later in the year 1663, the first West End Theater had opened; it hosted some of the earliest stars such as Charles Hart and Neil Gwyn. However, the theater had caught fire and burnt down in the year 1672.

The West End of Today
True to its values, the West End of today continues to offer something for just about everyone. The West End used to be associated with only the Aristocrats in the past but now, there is a piece of something for the masses.
